Social Concept, what exactly is that you may ask. Honestly when I first heard the term, I asked myself the same thing. Oddly enough, its a fairly simple definition to understand, and not only that, but we live it everyday. Social concept is nothing more than and idea, a topic, and or trend that has been created and accepted by the people in society. In this class ive heard and learned about many different concepts that I honestly didn’t even know they were really relevant to us. My thought was, what does social concepts have to do with digital media? Isn’t digital media just about learning how to make and edit things? Man, was I wrong! Digital media is everything when it comes to social concepts because we are the ones that create things that people see and can have an opinion on. We can create things that are true, or even things that are fake and that can alter the view of the world and even bring upon conflict. That is why its so important that we are honest about everything we create! The concept that struck me the most was, the fact that there is Online Racism. That truly broke my heart, and realizing that its actually a huge problem online. I realized that even people trying to sell things online, can be discriminated, and that just not fair. I also learned that just by the sound of peoples voice on the phone can determine certain things. Those are just a few examples of online racism.
